🔺️ Some seeds need darkness during germination to break down the food stored in the seed before they can produce their own energy through photosynthesis.
🔺️ When seeds are kept in the dark during germination, they use up the energy stored in the seeds to produce growth energy, allowing the seedlings to develop a strong root system and establish themselves before they can begin producing leaves and photosynthesis.
🔺️ Some seeds are sensitive to light and may not germinate properly if exposed to light too early. For example, lettuce seeds are known to be sensitive to light, and coconut mulching is applied during germination to prevent exposure to light.
🔺️ However, not all seeds need darkness to germinate. Some seeds, such as sunflowers and corn, need light to germinate properly.
🔺️ It is important to research the specific requirements of the seeds you are germinating and adjust your germinating conditions accordingly.
